I'm posting this section in response to the recent thread made in the follows section.
As a forum on Japanese Armour its our aim to widen others knowledge of the subject for our members, this also involves protecting them.
Over the past few months there has been an alarming amount of faked items originating from Japan. These items are becoming very difficult to spot as they are being reproduced by taking moulds from originals. The latest wave even includes damaged areas incorporated into the mouldings to deceive the buyer.
The outlet for these items are the auction websites, Yahoo Japan, and now Ebay.
They are being sold via junk shops and dealers, which would suggest that the auction seller has also been duped into thinking that the items are authentic.
The aim of this section is to educate, there are a number of common denominators that expose these items, however without a close up its nearly impossible to tell.
Items cover - Full Gusoku where resin parts have been incorporated into real armour sections - Mengu - Kabuto - Jingasa
And now sonohoku
If you are suspicious of an item do not buy it if the seller has not stated that it is edo period of earlier. Paypal will cover you if the item is wrongly described. Antique, old, vintage means nothing.
Buyer beware, be careful. And use the forum members to help validate.
