Another fake, which is currently seller on Yahoo. Fibreglass hachi with shu-urushi mei.
Reproduction shikoro, all darted up as would be expected. Note the kanamono, these are appearing on a few helmets lately. I will now list the names of the seller regardless. Also these items are not being described as old or antique, this removes the ability to return the item for deception as its sold as seen.
Malcolm, Definitely Japan. These people have recruited a network of outlets for their goods so that the sellers vary. They also know a great deal about the small details of katchu and have access to a variety of real examples from which to take moulds. With a few basic helmet shapes, various colours of lacing and scale types, you can ring the changes and produce what appears to be totally different items. There is a factory out there whose products are getting more ambitious by the day. Ian B
Hi Dave thanks for this message. I really can.t see from the pictures that its from fibreglass. How did you see the difference? I think I am only going to buy something which I have in my hand, with more weight than fibreglass. So it is not printed right?
It's not just fake armour coming out out of japan. many, many high end school tsuba being pumped out by the thousand. They are made in Japan and are almost right. At least the the Chinese stuff was east to spot. After all Japan have been copying items for centuries, it just happens to be the popular items that the west is hungry for right now
Hello all, if you look at the helmet above and compair it with the one in Dave`s post; d165676815 - Gusoku. You will see that the hachi and mabizashi are the some, as is the haradate dai. On the inside of the mabizashi there is an infill between the mabizashi and the hachi because the mould would tear there. The fukigaeshi are the same but the shikoro diferent. The makers of these are spreding these arround vairious dealers in Japan but they are comeing up together on Jauce.
