Hi! This interesting and I think quite rare kind of yari showed up today. At least I haven't seen many of them. I belive this to be a karigata yari, a jumonji yari with the side blades pointing down. It is mounted on a cut down pole that still stands 2,4 meters, can hardly fit it indoors. it's a hell of a weapon, my kind of pole arm. the blade is very heavy and I think this one trips horses as good as it pulls down the riders. I haven't managed to get it out of the pole yet so I do not know if it is signed or ubu. I like... Anthony

Anthony, in case to tackle horses, the European counterpart is called "Roßschinder" a special kind of halberd. Anyway, never seen such "jumonji derivat" before. Thanks for sharing

Anthony, Does the blade have shinogi both sides? I once had a similar one that was flat on the back. It had come from one of those Meiji displays of a load of what looked like spear heads radiating from under a helmet bowl, all on a big board. None of the yari heads were real, made in iron and flat on the back. Ian B

Hi!
It looks the same John, but with a thin layer of oil. Unfortunately I haven't been able to get it out from the pool, so as of yet, no pics of the nagako. This one has shinogi on both sides. I think it's the real deal. heavy as hell, cut down to 2,40 meters. The original lenght i can only guess, but it must have been a formidable weapon on the battlefield against samarai as well as horses.

It does seem very robust, Anthony.
By the way, what do you mean that you have to "get it out of the pool"?

Hi! Sorry John, I meant pole, I undestand that keeping it in the pool sounded strange.. ..Sorry my english is sometimes flawed. Yes, it is very top heavy with the shortened pole. Anthony
