The armor is a wonderful mess The matchlock looks ok. No parts missing. The ramrod looks like it's made from steel. Might be a replacement. If they sold it seperately it might be worth 1000-2000 pounds depending on the state. Paying an extra 3-3500 pounds for the "armor"...

The world is a very small place Dave.
Jan, that's the value I initially thought for the teppo.
The teppo barrel certainly has marks indicating it was registered in 1872, 壬申, but the registration number and authority (usually prefecture) appear to have been filed off and that area now has the inlaid script. It would be very strange if only the date was stamped into the barrel without one or both of the other registration elements.
Thanks for the closeups. Interesting pattern that seems to run all over the barrel. Not that common. The jingasa looks to be in good condition. If it's an iron one and Edo, I could probably splash out 350 pounds for it If they bin the armor and just sell the matchlock and jingasa for a correct price, it might have been worth a rid with the car for someone in the area.
This lot just keeps getting better and better Add at least 500 pounds fixing the broken spring in the matchlock. The seller should be happy with 1500-2000 for this lot. But perhaps this is another "ninja-tsutsu" that this seller bought from RIA. Now he needs some money back...
