Klaus, may I suggest that you put the photos of your nice Iechika under the tread Saotome smiths-Iechika. I like the idea that we can put our Saotome kabuto there as reference material. I know some of you like to keep them in hiding for different reasons but the rest, like this one that already appears in an open tread. If you want I can move it for you, your helmet was in that tread once but disappeared.
Odoshi is fracked !! but which are odoshige original old and this patina enhances the charm of the helmet! As long as the helmet in my collection is, he may remain in this state! best regards Klaus
I disagree, old odoshi that has become brittle and will disintegrate due to the fact that its an organic material that's rotten. There is nothing charming about decay unless you are a necrophile. Rotten odoshi is one of the reasons we find so many armours with missing parts. The armours fall apart and the parts get seperated and lost.
My opinion is that if the odoshi is servicable then leave it, but if its going to turn to dust replace it otherwise its neglectful. Hopefully the next owner will have a better outlook and comittment to maintaining what is a fabulous kabuto.
Don't you feel that we as owners have some level of responsibility to maintain these for future generations? I do.
At the end of the day its your helmet, do what you like with it.
