I have a menpo with a moustache in need of repair so I ordered some fine horsehair from a seller on eBay. This seller sold horsehair used for making fishing lures and it seemed to be similar enough to what I needed. However, when it arrived, the hair was too white and too fine. Can anyone suggest what kind of hair I should be looking for?
John, did you remove all the hair and replace it, or just the missing parts? If the latter, then you definitely did a good job with the color matching
I bought a natural boar's hair shaving brush for $6.95 at a local barbershop supply then found out it was still too light when held up against the moustache. So I clipped a bunch off of the brush and soaked that in my leftover morning coffee for a couple of hours. Then I formed smaller clumps and clipped off the ends to form a straight edge (note the top line on the moustache is remarkably straight and attached only at a very small area), and dipped the edge into a little pool of Gorilla glue. I then filled in each empty space with these little chunks (you'll need latex gloves to help "hold down" the hair for a few seconds while the glue sets). And voila!
So, to answer your question, I filled in the missing areas.
