I just wanted to report that Samurai Kyobai is really starting to grow now. In such a small time frame we are now the leading personal bidding service for antique katchu, and also at the cheapest with rates at only 7-8%. We are brokering armour, swords and art objects on a daily basis from Saotome to Saiga, and have steered many eager bidders away from fakes and overpriced items.
The following forum members are acting as the team
Ian Chapman Jan Pettersson Guy De La Repelle Arthur Goetz ...and me
We are attracting a lot of new collectors, and I'm sure that everyone that we have sourced items for are very happy indeed. This could never have happened without the forum. So I'd like to thank you all.
I have some rather creative plans for kyobai as we move forward.

Just wanted to share some of the feedback from FACEBOOK.
When I started Kyobai it was because I wasn't happy with JAUCE, and I thought the other agents were being greedy with the commissions. Kyobai has now been trading on a trickle for five months. I can say that the the project is working, we really are delivering a valued service run by collectors, for collectors. Each week we grow and attract a new bidder.
If you want responsive, reliable and knowledgeable experts in your corner, then do business with Samurai Kyobai. In over 30 years of collecting I have not found a better resource. Brad Thompson - USA
Samurai Kyobai is the leader in the auction services field! I am extremely pleased with the communication, financial ease of transaction and the shipping of the armour. In addition, Dave's patience with my questions and guidance during the transaction were incredible. Where else can one receive this type of service? Thanks Samurai Kyobai! Don Ellis - USA
USE SAMURAI KYOBAI!!!!!!!!! I've been collecting Japanese Art for over 10yrs. I have used most of the other agents but never again, Dave and his team truly exceeded my expectations. Excellent rates, communications and lighting fast delivery! Dave is a very well respected figure in the Samurai Armour world, I was amazed that he would spend so much time with me 1-2-1 on a video chat about a helmet. What amazed me the most was that they are not in this just for the money, they are more concerned that I got a great deal. Some of my bids have been on small items, other on expensive ones, Samurai Kyobai maintained the same level of service on each, they even stored my purchases so that I could add to them and maximise the shipping costs. These guys get 5 Star ratings for a valid reason. You have my custom for life. John Delaney - UK
I grew up in an antique shop and have been around antique collectors and dealers all my life. Bitten by the bug ages ago. The hobby is fun and addictive, but can be frustrating. The problem with collecting the arts of the samurai is there are so many fakes on the market. The only way to get what you really want is to stay away from EBay and keep an eye on the Japanese auction sites. It is a big hassle to deal with the Japanese sellers and you really need an agent to help. There are many agents/services out there, I used one and paid thousands for a fake that was delivered in a poorly packed box that was smashed up. Welcome to dealing with agents.... I recently discovered Dave Thatcher from Samurai Kyobai and it has been a breath of fresh air. Dave recently purchased on my behalf a Jumonji Yari and yajiri which I am really happy with. His team inspects the goods before they leave Japan so if they are fake, they have the capacity to go into fight for you to get a refund if possible. If you live outside of Japan, receive your package and not happy, you don't have much chance of doing anything. Dave has been very approachable, has amazing knowledge and a delight to deal with. I never thought I would do it, but just bought my first yoroi through him to. If you want someone to go into a bidding battle for you, who can give you guidance and handle the whole process professionally without being ripped off, I could not recommend anyone higher than Dave from Samurai Kyobai. I am genuinely very happy to find an educated professional who I can trust my money with. Thank you for your services - look forward to doing a lot of business with your company again. Yours faithfully, Steve Buttner, Melbourne Australia.
Very happy with the service provided. Easy communication with friendly staff. The fees were lower compared to other companies and shipping ultra fast. Will def use their services again. Jan - Sweden
Exellent personal service, good comunication, resonably priced service as well. possible to get expert opinion on the items. Overall a very good exerience. I do recommend this safe way to bid on Japanese auctions. Anthony- Sweden
Kabuto is excellent ... good service , very fast and efficient.. I ended up saving a substantial amount of money... I have since brought a suit of armour and Samurai kyobai again has surpassed my expectations...it all has to go through the workshop to undergo the required maintenance, but I am going to have an armour that I would never have been able to afford to own without Dave's help ...thanks again Dave.. I'm digesting one Nihonto and some European diversions but when the Katchu bug bites again I'm sure I'll be contacting you (besides the lacing I need to order but then will feel guilty about not working on). Yahoo auctions Japan is almost overflowing with objects, it's a lot to evaluate for people relatively new to the hobby but it certainly opens up opportunities.
