I am considering buying this boshi; signed Saotome ieharu. What do you think? Once again the mei looks different from the other ones we can find here, but everything else seems just fine.. Any idea on the value ? (want to be sure it is worth the money I am asked; don't want to pay too much )
Laurent, I would not go by a mei, I would go by workmanship, we have a Pinterest gallery with many Saotome kabuto images and the Saotome book, you should compare certain features such as the byo, the finish of the rivets, the overall look of the suji, does it look like the work of a master smith and does it have a similarity with other Saotome kabuto. With my limited knowledge and experience I would say that with what I can see considering the not to detailed images this kabuto has the look of an authentic Saotome, hopefully some forum members with more knowledge will add their opinions. As for price all I can give for an example is the one sold by Kino recently that was priced at around $5000 US, it also had no fittings.
Thanks Eric. That's also why I asked, for me the Kabuto straight away looked like a Saotome, then looking at the features and the books for me it clearly is a Saotome. I wanted to double check to be sure as I am not a Saotome expert, and have an idea of the value. I did not remember the price of the one in Kinokuniya, which was very close to this one so that's great.
