Hello everyone, I'm doing medieval reenactment for many years and started Samurai Reenactment 3 years ago. After 3 years of research my kit is almost complete. Almost....
I'm at point, where I really need some help, because I can't find anything.
I need sources: books, paintings, originals, online databases, archaeological finds...etc. for the following equipment:
- Chopsticks/ Hashi - Spoons - Kitchen knives/ "daily life" knives - gourd bottle - benches and tables for military camps
Time: Late Muromachi/early Momoyama/ late 16th century.
I would be very grateful, if anyone could help me with my research.
Thank you!
best regards
Marcial
P.S. I'm not a native speaker, so please forgive me, if anything is written wrong..

You will have to research Japanese iconography yourself. But you could start with Japanology on Youtube. A lot of it is modern but apart from the obvious little has changed for items of everyday life. As with medieval europe it is/was a feudal society and rank counts for everything. Most Samurai were of low rank, single and lived in barracks. They were too poor to own anything and all arms and armour were issued by there lord, of whatever rank he may be? The Kurosawa films are generally good for authenticity and the armours used were original.
